BELGRADE, Mont. -

Officials in Gallatin County have identified a Belgrade man who fired several shots at his neighbor's house over the weekend before taking his own life.

Park County Corner Al Jenkins says 57-year-old Steven Lee Groat died Sunday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Sheriff Brian Gootkin says Groat fired shots from his house into a neighbor's house shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday. The neighbor was slightly injured, but did not require medical attention.

After a daylong standoff, officers entered Groat's house at about 9:45 p.m. and found that he was dead.

Sheriff's Lt. Arlyn Greydanus says Groat fired six rounds before firing the shot that took his life. Jenkins says he believes Groat died shortly after the shots were fired at the neighbor's house.
