Senator John Walsh is an Iraq war veteran. In Washington, D.C., he is partnering with veterans organizations to promote the Suicide Prevention for America's Veterans Act.
The bill would improve access to care, give veterans more time to ask for care, streamline the process and improve education.
Walsh says,"We have approximately 22 of our fellow veterans dying by suicide each and every day here in the United States. That's an epidemic we cannot allow to continue. But we cannot do it alone. It is going to take work from every one of us -- all Americans -- to solve this problem."
The bill goes to a U.S. Senate committee next.
