Woman dies after crashing stolen SUV in Whitefish
A 33-year-old Bozeman woman has died of injuries suffered when the stolen sport utility vehicle she was driving struck a tree in Whitefish.
Whitefish Police Chief Bill Dial tells the Whitefish Pilot that the woman was in town for a wedding and apparently spent Friday evening drinking at a few bars.
Dial says the woman was walking downtown later when she say a BNSF Railway work crew get into a work shuttle that she thought was a taxi. The crew informed her it wasn't.
Dial says the woman then took a BNSF-owned SUV early Saturday and sped off, eventually hitting a tree. Dial says she died Sunday morning as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
Toxicology tests are pending. The woman's name hasn't been released.
