Woman, granddaughter killed in East Helena crash
Authorities say and woman and her granddaughter were killed in a head-on collision near East Helena.
Capt. George Cruickshank of the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff's office says the two women were traveling on U.S. Highway 12 Wednesday night when they were struck by a vehicle driving the wrong way.
Montana Highway Patrol trooper David Gleich tells the Independent Record (http://bit.ly/103HaVb ) alcohol was involved.
Coroner Mickey Nelson identified the grandmother and granddaughter as 51-year-old Mildred K. Richard and 16-year-old Justine K. Smith, both of Helena.
Nelson says Smith died at the crash and Richard died early Thursday after being taken to a hospital.
Trooper Jeremy Lee says two adults in the other vehicle were in stable condition.
Authorities say they will release their names after the investigation is completed.
