GREAT FALLS, Mont. -

Authorities say a 46-year-old woman is in critical condition after her vehicle crashed, caught fire and she spent nearly eight hours outside in freezing temperatures.

The Great Falls Tribune reports Brenda Carpenter's vehicle crashed into a utility pole north of the city on Wilson Road early Monday.

Emergency responders say Carpenter escaped her vehicle but she suffered third-degree burns to her back and legs.

Responders say the crash happened around midnight but she was not found until 7:30 a.m. Monday.

Authorities say Carpenter was alert but severely hypothermic.

She has been transported to a hospital in Seattle.
