MISSOULA, Mont. -

After seven weeks, repair work is beginning on an unstable hill that shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 90.

Heavy rains prompted a large section of mountainside to throw rocks into the roadway 5 miles east of Lookout Pass.

Now, Columbia Falls based company Schellinger Construction has begun to repair the area. Schellinger will stabilize the slope as well as replace damaged guardrail.

Traffic patterns will remain the same, with only two open lanes and a restriction on wide loads.  Schellinger hopes to complete the work and reopen the westbound lanes by July 4.
