Worker at northern MT oil field dies
The Toole County sheriff's office and the Occupational Health and Safety Administration have confirmed that someone working for Somont Oil Co. suffered a fatal injury Thursday afternoon.
Billings OSHA area office director Jeff Funke says the agency has a safety and health officer en route to the site.
Funke said Friday the worker was struck by equipment or tools. The person's name was being withheld until family members could be notified.
Sheriff Donna Whitt said Friday the emergency call came in at 4:39 p.m. Thursday.
Funke said the employer notified OSHA within eight hours of the accident, as required by regulations.
Somont is a family-owned company that operates oil and natural gas wells in Toole County north of Shelby.
