Parole denied in 2009 Helena shooting
The Montana Board of Pardons and Parole has denied parole to a Helena man charged with killing a 16-year-old boy and injuring two other teens during a June 2009 confrontation.
Sebastian Olivares-Coster did not appear at Tuesday's hearing in Deer Lodge, but the two surviving victims and the parents of all three testified about the ongoing effects of the shooting.
Olivares-Coster was sentenced to life in prison for the death of Cory Andrewski followed by concurrent life sentences for attempted deliberate homicide for shooting Kahner Leary and Joseph Wohlers.
District Judge Dorothy McCarter's sentence made Olivares-Coster ineligible for parole for 60 years, but the Montana Supreme Court rejected that limitation because Olivares-Coster was 17 at the time of the shooting.
