MISSOULA, Mont. -

As soon as college football season seems to end the excitement of next year begins again already.

This week many high school standouts are making their college decisions, that includes Missoula Big Sky standout Cole Baker.

Baker announced yesterday that he will be taking his gridiron talents to Butte where he will compete for the Montana Tech Orediggers.

The 6-foot-1 senior has been a standout in both football and basketball for the Eagles.

Now Baker will be playing defensive back at Tech but you probably most remember him as one of the top passers in the state this past year.

"It was pretty difficult.  I mean obviously quarterback was something I really wanted to play, and then Tech was looking at me for defense," said Baker.  "But I mean Tech is definitely on the rise as far as their football program goes.

He set school records at Big Sky in passing yards, completions, completion percentage and touchdowns.  As a senior he was named 2nd team All-State quarterback and 1st team all-state cornerback.  Baker has also been selected to compete in this summer's East-West all-star Shrine game.  He says he's excited to join a Diggers program that seems to be on the rise.

"Last year they got into the playoffs and lost to the eventual second place team," said Baker.  "So i mean they're looking good football-wise.  And obviously their education... I mean they have one of the top academic programs in the country so that obviously played a huge role into it."
