Butte defeats Bozeman in stunning fashion to win state title

BUTTE, Mont. -

The Butte Bulldogs made their first state championship appearance in 21 years a memorable one. 

With a crowd of over 6,000 fans packing Naranche Stadium in Butte, the Bulldogs and Bozeman Hawks put on quite a show. 

Butte got on the board first with Dalton Daum touchdown reception from Dallas Cook, the extra point was blocked, Butte lead 6-0.

Bozeman responded with a touchdown of their own, hitting the extra point taking a 7-6 lead.

By halftime after going up and down the field, the Bulldogs lead 20-14. 

After the half it appeared Butte had pulled away for good, they lead 35-21 with just over two minutes to go.  But the Hawks stayed resilient, quickly scoring and recovering an onside kick at 35-28.

With under 30 seconds left Bozeman scored a touchdown and hit the two point conversion to lead 36-35.  But with time expiring, Butte kicker Jake Dennehy nailed a 46-yard field goal to make the Bulldogs the State AA Champions.
