MISSOULA, Mont. -

Last year all three Missoula class 'AA' softball teams made it into the state tournament; Big Sky high school is one of those teams hoping for a return trip to the state tournament in 2013.

With seven seniors this season the team says they're confident with their hitting and defense right now.  The squad is hungry to get back to that state tournament and win some games this time.

"I think we'll have a good team," said senior outfielder Lexi Crawford.  "We definitely have a young pitching staff but other than that we have seven seniors so we should be pretty good."

The Eagles lost just two starting seniors from last year's team, but one of those players was talented pitcher Andie Walt.  The team unanimously agrees that in order to put together the season they want they'll need to find a young pitcher or two that can pick up the slack.

"We have four pitchers on varsity this year," said head coach Dennis Staves of his squad.  "They're young and it's going to be pitching by committee for us I think the first part of the season."

"We've all been playing together since Little League so that's always fun," said senior catcher Jess Schafer.  "Our pitching staff is pretty young but they're looking good so far and we'll see what we're made of over in Great Falls."

Big Sky kicks off this season at the Jamboree tournament in Great Falls.
