MISSOULA, Mont. -

Last spring there were a total of seven Grizzly football players from the 2011 team that had signed on with an NFL organization.  By a few weeks into the regular season however that number had dwindled to just two... draft picks Trumaine Johnson and Caleb McSurdy.  But this week one more player from that 2011 semifinal squad has again signed with an NFL team.

That player is the electric receiver and special teams stud Jabin Sambrano who had an outstanding career at Montana.  Sambrano has officially signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week.

“Words can't express the way that I felt,” said Sambrano on signing this week. “I immediately called my family and let them know the good news.”

Following the NFL draft last spring Sambrano signed on with the Indianapolis Colts as a free agent.  He even played in three preseason games there.

However after a possible concussion sidelined him from playing in their final preseason contest, Sambrano was released from the team. Now four months of training at home later he was a given another opportunity.

Sambrano was flown to Tampa Bay on Tuesday of this week to work out with the Buccaneers.  He signed on to the team's practice squad later that day.

“I was just ecstatic man.  Just because you know I wasn't even expecting that,” said Sambrano about being offered a role on the Bucs’ practice squad on Tuesday. “I was just expecting an invite for next year you know.”

Sambrano says all his hard work this fall at home in California really paid off.  His workout in Tampa was nearly flawless with crisp route running and impressive kick return skills.

Sambrano says having fellow teammates like Trumaine Johnson and Caleb McSurdy in the league inspired him even more to make a home for himself in the NFL.

“No matter who was writing me off I just want to tell the Griz family thank you guys for all your support and that once a Griz always a Griz… Go Griz."
