Syracuse senior Brandon Triche scored a game high 20 points as fourth-seeded Syracuse beat No. 13 seed Montana 81-34 in the second round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday night.
The Orange jumped out to an early lead that grew by as many as 50 points, Syracuse cruised by Montana in the contest. Syracuse led Montana in all aspects of the game at the half, and they never looked back once taking the early lead in the first half.
As for Montana, it was a quiet night for senior Will Cherry and junior Kareem Jamar. Cherry finished the game with just two points in what would end up being his final game played as a Grizzly. As for Jamar, he struggled as well and score only five points in the game.
It was back-to-back seasons Montana made it to the big dance but came up short in their opening game. The Griz were without leading scorer Mathias Ward and it showed. Montana shot 20 percent from the floor going 11-54, they missed 27 3-point shots making only 4 attempts, and they had more turnovers than points. The loss marks the end of the season for Montana.
