The Grizzly Men’s basketball team broke more than one conference record last week in their wins over Northern Colorado and North Dakota.  Today one player in-particular was spotlighted for his efforts.

Kareem Jamar has been chosen as the Big Sky Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week for games played between Feb. 4-9.

Jamar averaged 16 points, 8.5 rebounds. 6.5 assists, 2.5 steals and two blocks per game as the Grizzlies picked up a pair of home victories. In the two games, Jamar shot .545 percent from the field, and .857 percent from the free-throw line.

Jamar netted 18 points in the Thursday victory over the Bears.  He also filled up the stat sheet with eight rebounds, seven assists, three steals and three blocks.  On Saturday, Jamar provided 14 points with nine rebounds, six assists, two blocks and a steal in a 78-58 victory over North Dakota.

"Really impressive numbers last week and you know he was coming off a road trip that he didn't play particularly well," said head coach Wayne Tinkle of his junior's performances last week.  "And he was in the gym early and he was focused, watching video on his own and I mean he just does a little bit of everything and it's a nice honor for Kareem, and I know that will keep him motivated moving forward."

The Griz have now won 25 straight regular season conference games, breaking the old Weber State record of 24 set back in 1970.  Montana also has 24 straight home wins in regular season play, breaking the old Idaho record of 23 set back in 1983.  Montana has won 14 straight games overall, which ties a program record that they set last season.  That is also the 2nd longest current streak in Division 1 basketball, just behind Akron’s 15 games.
