The Montana Grizzlies got their first Big Sky Conference win on the year after beating Northern Colorado 40-17 Saturday afternoon.
The Griz were firing on all cylinders on both sides of the ball. Offensively the Griz had another successful day on the ground carrying the ball 46 times for almost 300 yards. Senior Peter Nguyen ran the ball 15 times for 159 yards including a 13 yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
Freshman Trent Mckinney threw the ball efficiently on the day, he completed 14 of 25 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns, and did not throw an interception in the game.
On the defensive side of the ball the Griz got after it. Montana's secondary piled up four interceptions, four sacks, and a fumble recovery. The Griz defense also shut down the run again, this time only allowing 62 yards on 26 attempts, an average of 2.4 yards per carry.
The Griz now improve their record to 3-3 and 1-2 in the Big Sky Conference. Montana will be back home in Missoula to host Southern Utah on Saturday, Oct. 13, kickoff will be at 1:30 p.m.
