MISSOULA, Mont. -

The Missoula Mavericks 2013 legion baseball season came to an end Sunday afternoon in Billings when the host Billings Royals beat Missoula 5-0 in the state championship game.

Missoula needed to beat Billings twice to claim the title. During Thursday's game the Mavs lost to the Royals 6-3 and faced elimination but they were able to stay alive in the tournament after beating the Billings Scarlets Friday and the Bozeman Bucks on Saturday.

But Sunday Missoula struggled to find its offense. The Mavericks had just four hits against Billings. Royals pitcher Chance Ackerman pitched a completed game shutout while striking out five batters as the Royals claimed their second straight state title.
