The two time defending state champion Florence Falcons have started the new season with a bang and a perfect 4-0 record.  On top of that the Falcons are beating their opponents by an average of eight runs per game.

"We're all really good hitters we're all really confident when we go up the plate," said Florence junior Megan Byrne.  "But also our defense, we have to have solid defense if we're going to play tough teams, defense is key to winning also."

"I think it's going to be our hitting and our team defense," said Florence head softball coach Rob Ralls.  "We've always said good pitching and good defense will win championships.  We're going to be able to hit this year and I can see it now so they better be ready when we come we're going to be hitting."

"This year we are going to rely a lot more on hitting," said Florence senior Stephanie Drozdz.  "We have quite a few returners who know how to hit the ball hard and know how to place it well where as the last couple years we just kind of worked on small ball."

Entering this season the Falcons know there's a big target on their back, but the team says it enjoys the pressure of performing day in and day out.

"The target motivates us cause we know teams are gunning for us so we have to go out there play our hardest every single game," said Byrne.  "But it's also motivation because it would be so cool to win three straight titles."

"The girls are up for the challenge," said Ralls.  "They know they've got a bulls-eye on their back and they're going to play with a chip on their shoulder and hopefully they continue that.  They understand that they've got to go out and give their best effort every game, it don't matter who we're playing because everyone's gunning for us and I wouldn't want it any other way."

The next test for Florence will be a double header this Saturday when the Falcons host Ronan in a rematch of last year's class B-C state championship game.
