Saturday afternoon Coastal Carolina beat Bethune-Cookman 48-24 in the first round of the FCS playoffs. With the win the Chanticleers will travel to Missoula to face the Montana Grizzlies in the second round of the playoffs.
During Saturday's contest Coastal Carolina jumped out to and early 21-3 lead and never looked back. The Chanticleers were dominant on offense, passing for 256 yards through the air and rushing for 217 on the ground.
Quarterback Alex Ross helped lead the offense to 473 yards. Ross completed 13 of 18 passes for 256 yards to go along with four passing touchdowns. Matt Hazel was the leading receiver for the Chanticleers, although he only caught three passes for 64 yards, two of the catches were for touchdowns. Coastal Carolina controlled the ground attack rushing 37 times for 217 yards, an average of just under six yards per carry. Leading the way for the backs was Lorenzo Taliaferro, he carried the ball 19 times for 85 yards and one rushing touchdown.
The Montana Grizzlies will host Coastal Carolina Saturday, Dec. 7, inside Washington-Grizzly Stadium. Kickoff is slated for noon, and the game will air on ESPN3.
