Griz football vs CCU

Coastal Carolina scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter to lead the UM Grizzlies 35-14 at halftime.

The UM Grizzlies were tied with Coastal Carolina 14-14 at the start of the second quarter.

The Grizzly football team scored a touchdown early in the first half on a running play to lead Coastal Carolina 7-0.

All week long people have been talking about the challenges that Mother Nature is providing for this week’s FCS Playoff game between the Grizzlies and Chanticleers with record low temperatures expected for kickoff, but Montana isn’t forgetting who the real opponent is inside Washington-Grizzly Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Coastal Carolina enters the game with a record of 11-2 on the year, and their offense starts with their senior running back Lorenzo Taliaferro.  The senior is a bruising back at 6-foot-2 and 230 lbs and is a Walter Payton Award candidate this season.

Taliaferro ranks second in the FCS in scoring (12.0 ppg), third in rushing touchdowns (24), sixth in rushing yards (1,572), 10th in rushing yards per game (120.9 avg.) and 29th in points responsible for (156 and one of two non-quarterbacks among the FCS top 30).

Montana (10-2) knows that stopping the CCU offense starts with bottling up the talented Taliaferro, but the Grizzlies say they are up to the task:

"I think we're really excited for it just speaking strictly for the defensive line,” said Griz senior Alex Bienemann this week.  “Really excited to have some team try to run the ball right at us because that's what I think we would all agree we're best at handling. To have another team try and come against us and run the ball down our throat… I’m super excited I can’t wait."

The game kicks off at 12:05 MST inside Washington Grizzly Stadium.
