MISSOULA, Mont. -

Saturday morning Jason Delaney crossed the finish line of the Missoula Marathon with the top finishing time, not to mention a new course record.

"I am really happy with the performance, and being able to come and get that course record and the fan support was really great, It was really fun," said Delaney.

Delaney, a 33 year old Polson native who ran for Polson high school as well as the University of Wyoming, set the new record with a time of 2:26:10 breaking the old mark of 2:26:25 set by Elliot Welder in 2011. Delaney says he could see the time at the finish line and knew the record was in reach.

"I was right on pace for over twenty miles, even a little more than that, but struggled late. I wasn't sure I was there, I was looking at it and I knew it would be close," said Delaney.

Hundreds of people gathered at the finish ling on Higgins Street Bridge to support and cheer on the runners, Delaney said it was a great atmosphere at the finish line.

"Late in the race when you get that support, it's a great thing when you really need that support," said Delaney. "It feels great coming in. Once you get in to that last quarter mile you're coming for home It's just a great feeling, and you have that crowd supporting you the whole way."
