Hellgate High graduate Alex Braun has been one of the top tennis players in the Treasure State for the past four years. He says he visited several colleges while deciding where he would play at the next level, including Montana State, but in the end he picked the Griz and that was a relief for the whole family.
"I decided that I liked Missoula the best and really like what the tennis team had to offer and academics so I thought it was a good fit for me," said Alex.
"Well it certainly would have been an interesting dynamic if he would have picked MSU,” said his older brother Eric Braun who is a senior player at Montana. “But I know my mom is very happy that we are going to the same school, she's happy that we’re in town."
Back in 2010 the Braun brothers teamed up in doubles for the Hellgate Knights tennis team and that year they even went on to win a state title. Now for the first time in four years the two will be teammates once again and this time they'll be playing at the collegiate level.
"My freshman year in high school was probably the most fun I've ever had playing tennis with my brother on the team and I look forward to doing that again this next year," said Alex.
It remains uncertain yet whether or not these brothers will team up for doubles one more time, this time in the Big Sky Conference.
"It would be a lot of fun to be able to go out there and play doubles again together and I hope we can maybe do that some next season but we'll see how everything goes,” said Alex.
"We've talked about it a little bit it could definitely be a reality especially testing it out in the fall,” said Eric of the possibility to team up with his younger brother. “But I really leave everything in Chris Nord's hands. He's been great to me in my three years and I think he's only going to make good decisions here moving forward."
