Current Missoula Maverick Riley King received some exciting news during Saturday's double header baseball game when he found out the Kansas City Royals drafted him in the 24th round.
"I came off the field and my dad told me, and I gave him a big hug, and it's a pretty special moment" said King.
King says he has been in contact with scouts for about a month now, and that hearing the news of being drafted was a huge relief.
"It's been in the back of my mind for about a month now" said King. "Obviously I've been playing out here everyday and there's scouts in the stand and thinking what are they thinking, it's just a huge relief to be over with and I'm really excited."
During his freshman season at Carroll College King was busy on the basketball court playing for the Saints where he earned Freshman of the year honors for the Frontier Conference. Now, King faces a tough decision of whether he will play basketball or baseball.
"I've thought about it a lot" said King. "It's been in the back of my mind, obviously trying to do everything I can with pros and cons, stuff like that, obviously I have to talk to my family and talk to the Royals a little bit more and see where we're heading with everything, see what decision I think is best for me and go from there."
As for now, King will continue to help the Missoula Mavericks try to get back to the state tournament for another consecutive year.
