We've reached about the halfway point of the high school hoops season and while there have been plenty of surprises, one fact remains certain in girl’s basketball: the Sentinel Spartans are the best team in the state.
The two-time defending state champs are still perfect on the year with an overall record of 10-0 and a conference mark of 3-0.
Led by two division one bound athletes in seniors Livvy Roberts (18.6 points per game) and Maddie Keast (12.1 points per game), the Spartans have faced little resistance so far on the year.
Sentinel has won all of their games this season by at least 11 points and they've won six games by at scoring least 25 more points than their opponent.
The Lady Spartans are clear about one fact and that’s a 3rd straight state title is the biggest goal on their minds. But I did get them to admit that going undefeated in the process, which they have not done for the last two titles, would be icing on the cake.
"There definitely is that thought but coach Deden has always taught us that losing isn't always a bad thing,” explains Roberts. “It teaches you and makes you want to win even more but having an undefeated season your senior year and winning a state championship would be a big present so we're always working to win."
"A huge goal for us,” agrees Keast. “I mean you're not supposed to talk about it, but it's always the ultimate goal. If you can win state that's fantastic, if you can go undefeated that's fantastic, but if you can do it together that's just the greatest thing you could ask for."
