An exciting display of veteran basketball mixed with young talent made for a satisfying evening of Griz basketball at the annual Maroon-Silver scrimmage Tuesday evening inside Dahlberg arena.

Senior player Kareem Jamar played the part as a returning conference MVP and scored 18 points to go with 5 assists and 4 rebounds.

“Kareem was Kareem,” explained head coach Wayne Tinkle.  “He makes plays for us no matter what position he’s at.  He set up a bunch of shooters, drop offs for the bigs, plus he made a few of his own, and we’re going to need that from him day-in and day-out.”

Griz center Eric Hutchison, the only other senior on the Griz roster, scored 9 points to go with his 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.

Junior college transfer Chris Kemp opened eyes in his Montana debut.  The 6-7 forward scored 16 points on 6-of-6 shooting from the floor and a 4-5 effort from the charity stripe.  Kemp also snatched 7 rebounds.

“I thought Chris played well offensively,” said Tinkle. “I think we will see that defensively he needs to get a little bit better.  He’s going to be a force for us.”

Former Corvallis High School standout Riley Bradshaw made some plays for his new squad as well.  The Utah State transfer registered 8 points.  Bradshaw won’t be eligible to play for Montana until the fall semester ends in late December.

"And then you saw some highlights from Riley Bradshaw," said Tinkle after the scrimmage.  "He made some baskets for us as well.  He'll be another handler and play-maker for us."

The Griz are back in action this Saturday, Oct. 26, hosting Simon Fraser in an exhibition game that tips off at 7:05 p.m. in Dahlberg Arena.

In the Lady Griz scrimmage which followed, fans were treated to a solid evening of work by UM’s experienced upper classmen.

Senior point guard Torry Hill played a great game, finishing with 19 points after hitting 3 of 4 from beyond the arc. Fellow senior and returning starter Jordan Sullivan posted a double-double of 13 points and 10 boards.

Carly Selvig also had an impressive evening resulting in a double-double. The redshirt junior came away with 16 points and a game-high 15 rebounds to lead the Maroon team to victory.

Sophomore McCalle Feller (13), redshirt sophomore Hannah Doran (11), junior Maggie Rickman (10) and redshirt Kellie Cole (10) all made it to double figures scoring on the night.

Montana will host MSU Billings on Monday at 7 p.m. at Dahlberg Arena in the Lady Griz’ first exhibition game.
